London Olympics 2012

The Olympics is probably the largest and most exciting sporting event in our history and I have always been a huge fan.



This weekend in London there is an exhibition happening on the Olympic medals and how they are made.

What a perfect idea for a ladies night, or really any intimate occasions. If you have a larger backyard or garden, this would be super easy to set up, even a few lawn chairs and pillows would work, or if you really are on a budget, a fluffy blanket would be perfect, its a pick-nick under the stars.

DIY - Paper Roll Art

Its time for a quick and fun DIY! 

Lately I have been all for cheap and chic! I have seen many paper roll art, so I have decided to try one for my own. Its super simple and fast to do. You can go as crazy or as tame as you want. Its great for hanging and can be transformed for any theme and colour. 

Here we go:

Materials: Scissors, Super glue or glue gun (I used super glue), toilet paper rolls, your imagination

Step 1: Gather as many toilet paper rolls as you like and cut them about 2 cm wide.

Step 2: Arrange in any pattern you wish. You can make pretty flower shapes like me if you like.

Step 3: Glue all you pieces together and VOILA! Here is one of mine during Halloween.

Events, Events, Events....

Now that we know what my definition of an event is...YAY! Why not classify an event into its many different categories and sub categories. This will be helpful when trying to decide what event you would like to plan and what category it might fall under. So lets get started!

Which is your favourite type of event? Have you ever planned an event? How did it go?

DIY Halloween Inspired Tassels

Since Halloween is right around the corner.I decided to post a super easy and quick DIY.
All you will need is appropriate coloured plastic grocery bags, scissors and rope.Yup, that's it.

There are really only three steps.

First, cut your plastic bag into a triangle shape, or any shape your prefer, really.
Second, cut slits in at the bottom of your shape, to create the tassled effect. See below, for my example.

Third, measure the rope to your desired length, and tie the tassels to it, spacing them out as far or as close as you would like them to be to each other. I tied the top corner of my triangle to the rope.

And, result.

Looking back, I could have made my rope a bit longer, and made my tassels a bit larger, but hey, next time.

Event?

What is an event?  If I posed this simple question to a classroom, all hands would go up, eagerly waving at me with multiple answers, all which would be right of course! So why ask the question? Well, simply because in order to be able to plan and execute an event properly and purposefully, we should understand the basics.

So what is an event? Dictionary.com describes an event as:

noun

1.

something that happens or is regarded as happening; anoccurrence, especially one of some importance.

2.

the outcome, issue, or result of anything: The venture hadno successful event.

3.

something that occurs in a certain place during a particularinterval of time.

4.

Physics . in relativity, an occurrence that is sharply localizedat a single point in space and instant of time. Compare world point.

5.

Sports . any of the contests in a program made up of onesport or of a number of sports: The broad jump eventfollowed the pole vault. 

I would prefer to define it a bit differently. An event can:

 Be a celebration of something

Who runs events? Again, all hands would be flying up! But really, who does run events? Most of the time it is friends and family, but when it comes to professionally run events, one must have certain qualifications. I will divulge those when we start to learn about the different types of events and who specifically they are run by.

Any ideas as to how many types of events there are and what categories they might fall into?
